User Information 

  1. What should I add as an expertise?
    Your expertise on your user profile is a great way to illustrate your strengths as an individual. Here you can enter 3 expertise that best describe who you are as a professional.
  2. How do I add my LinkedIn, Twitter and website information to my profile?
    Just click on social links under your user profile on the homepage, you can then enter any personal Twitter, LinkedIn, AngelList, Facebook and personal website information. This information will be displayed to the community on your user profile when you are online.
  3. How do I make the most of my chat status?
    This is an opportunity to share your favorite topics of discussion which don’t necessarily have to tie in to your services. Users love to learn and see how relevant developments are affecting your industry & their professional. Avoid an overtly salesy tone. Here are a few examples of chat statuses that users have loved.

Chat

  1. Who can I chat with in the VentureApp community?
    Professional chat enables you to import your contacts so that you can interact with your existing network through instant chat on the VentureApp platform. Manage your professional connections, vendors, clients, and partnerships easily and in one place. You can also build rapport with potential partners and prospects at other companies, leverage their networks, and create lasting professional relationships.
  2. How do I discover new contacts at other companies?
    Check out who is online now, look at their chat status and in turn look at their profile – these questions should guide your decision to chat. Which contacts are in their network? Do they focus on the same industry as you? Are they looking for a referral that you could assist with? Do they have an area of expertise that you could provide some advice on? Are they in a similar location to you? Generally, people online now are open and willing to have a discussion – so don’t miss out!
  3. How do I connect with someone that is “Online Now”?
    The best way to connect with someone is to catch them in real time. Click the name on the right hand side of the homepage and a Chat invitation box will appear. Personalize your message and send the invite. Introduce yourself, find out more about them and treat the interaction as you would if you were at a networking event.
  4. How do I chat a professional that is not “Online Now”?
    We understand that professionals will not be able to be online 24/7. To make chat accessible to all, a professional can also be invited to chat from their profile, based off their areas of expertise. First, use the search function to look at specific professional names or areas of expertise and select a profile. Then, on the left hand side of the profile you will see blue chat bubbles next to each area of expertise. Select and input a personalized message before sending a chat invitation. Keep in mind, all users from these companies will also receive an email notification which will speed up their response rate.
  5. What makes a successful chat?
    By chatting with your most valued business contacts on VentureApp, you can get business done more quickly, get answers to your questions, and receive intros to other valuable professionals who can help you. When networking online with new people, treat invitations to chat as you would at an in-person networking event, with the added bonus that on VentureApp you can easily know who they work alongside and what they do. As in person, no need to jump straight into a pitch – everyone is here to connect and build out their network so chat is the best way to drive this forward. We’ve found the best chats are personal, succinct, and focus on providing mutual benefit to each recipient.
  6. How do I add a contact to an existing chat that I am having?
    After you import your contacts from Google or LinkedIn, you have access to your professional network and the ability to invite any relevant contacts to existing or new chats. Inviting contacts is a great way to introduce people and build your own social capital. Professionals that are fielding questions about their premium business can also invite team members to the chat to ensure they are providing the best information to their connections. If you need to include another team member in your existing chat, you can click the “Invite” button in the chat window. If you no longer need to receive these chat notifications you can leave the chat and let them discuss privately.
  7. Can I start a new chat with my contacts from my chat screen?
    Yes, not only can you send new chats from your homepage, you also have the ability to start a new chat from your chat tab. Just click the pen on the left hand side and click “add” to start a chat with one of your contacts regardless if they are online or not.
  8. Some contacts aren’t replying to my invitation to chat. What should I do?
    Users get notified right away by push notification and email when you invite them to chat. Be sure to include a personal note within the invitation to increase the likelihood they recognize you and accept your chat. If you invite your connections to chat and they don’t immediately respond, the invite will expire in 48 hours. Feel free to send a reminder after 48 hours, but we recommend not being too pushy. On the flip side, when someone accepts your invite to chat, or if you get an invitation to chat, we encourage you to start the conversation ASAP (strike while the iron is hot).

Office Hours 

  1. What is Office Hours?
    Office Hours are dedicated times each day when an influential member of the VentureApp community is available to discuss a certain topic. We have a weekly lineup of CEO’s, founders, investors (and the list is growing) who set aside an hour to actively engage in one-on-one conversations with anyone in the community. Office Hours participants have created partnerships, closed business deals, and found new advisors and investors.
  2. How do I participate in Office Hours?
    Just log into VentureApp and you will see the Office Hours widget on the top right hand side of the homepage. To participate, just click the blue “chat” button and send a personalized chat invitation to the featured user. Once accepted, this will become a one-on-one conversation between yourself and the featured user.
  3. How should I extract the most value out of Office Hours?
    Office Hours are designed to help our users access the most influential professionals in the innovation economy – to help them enter conversations they might not otherwise have the opportunity to enter. There are hundreds of Office Hours a year so each individual should work to optimize their conversations with their own contacts and extended network, as well as with Office Hour influencers, in order to be as effective as possible on VentureApp. Generally, users will see return if they add value to the conversations they are initiating or joining: be genuinely interesting, talk to people who are relevant to you or your business and don’t spam everyone else, and spark valuable conversations about current events, news, relevant industry topics, etc.

Contacts 

  1. How do I import my contacts?
    We have written a blog post to easily explain this process so just click below and follow the prompts: Blog Post – Importing Contacts.
  2. What are my contacts used for?
    We want to make it easy for you to connect with your existing professional network. Your  contacts are for you and you alone, unless you want to make intros to other VentureApp users to your trusted network. Only you can see your contacts. If your contact logs on to VentureApp to chat with you, they can then choose to chat with any other user of VentureApp who is online, or import their contacts to connect with their own professional network.  VentureApp will never – we repeat, never – share your contacts or message them without your consent.
  3. Where are my contacts displayed?
    Your VentureApp contacts are displayed on your homepage and will have a blue “chat” bubble to instantly speak with those in your network. Keep in mind, any users you speak with on the VentureApp platform will automatically be included in your VentureApp contacts list.
  4. How do I invite non-VentureApp contacts?
    When you import your contacts, you will be able to sort by those that use VentureApp and those that have not yet by clicking on settings >> contacts. Under other contacts, click the blue “Invite” button and those non-VentureApp users will receive an email indicating that you wish to chat with them on VentureApp.
  5. What is the difference between a connection & contact?
    A VentureApp connection is a public endorsement of a professional relationship – a partner, client, investor, or vendor – which you list on your VentureApp profile. A VentureApp contact is a private list of professionals whom you chat with regularly.

Company Profile 

  1. What is an area of expertise?
    An “area of expertise” is a core offering of your business or professional strength. Selecting areas of expertise allows you to communicate your unique differentiators from competitors in the market. Why should people want to work with you? Reach out to the VA bot through chat if you’d like to add or learn more.
  2. How do I add an area of expertise?
    Click the pen icon next to “areas of expertise” on the left hand side of your profile. Search your area of expertise using the keyword based template. Remember, once added, you will be searched by that area of expertise. You can only add a certain number of areas of expertise based on your membership level, so focus on your key strengths to build your strongest reputation on VentureApp.
  3. How do users or companies chat me when I’m offline?
    As a premium member, companies can chat to you directly from your profile by clicking on the blue chat bubble next to the your areas of expertise. Therefore, you do not need to be online for a user to send a chat invitation.
  4. What if my area of expertise isn’t included?
    Areas of expertise are keyword based to predict common search topics for our users. If there is an area of expertise or associated keyword that you really think should be included please submit it to the VA bot through chat. We have certain thresholds to adding new areas of expertise, but always want to hear from our members.
  5. When a company searches for my area of expertise – can they see that I’m online?
    Yes, when you search by area of expertise, there will be a widget on the right hand side of the search page that displays all companies that are online and have indicated they are experts in that area.

Notifications 

  1. How do I edit the frequency of my email notifications?
    We understand that you may not want to receive any additional emails so it is really easy to change this frequency. Hover over your avatar in the top right >> click Settings >> Notifications and then toggle on/off the notifications you would like to receive.

    All feedback, requests for membership updates, or healthy helpings of praise can be sent to our VA bot through the VentureApp platform. There is always a chat open with the bot so once sent, our Customer Success team will respond.
